NHS Dentistry

We offer NHS Dentistry at every South Cliff Dental Group practice to make it easier for everyone to access high-quality dental care.

What is NHS Dentistry?

National Health Service (NHS) dentistry ensures that clinically-necessary dental treatment is available to everyone in the UK. This service ensures that dental care is available to a wide range of people, including those who may not be able to afford private treatments.

As an NHS dental group, South Cliff dentists offer a range of services, providing the clinically necessary treatments you need to keep your mouth, teeth and gums healthy and pain-free. Under the NHS, our dentists must determine which treatments are appropriate based on clinical assessment and clinical judgement.

A Group of NHS Dentists in the UK

Finding an NHS dentist can be challenging, as not every dental practice in the country provides NHS treatment. South Cliff Dental Group is a people-first network of practices, and every one of our locations offers both NHS and private care. We believe healthy smiles are vital for overall health, and offering NHS treatments is how we can help more patients access the dental care they need.

Dental Services Covered by the NHS

The NHS covers a range of preventative, restorative and emergency dental care services. Any treatment your dentist believes is clinically necessary to keep your mouth, teeth and gums healthy should be covered by the NHS.

NHS coverage does not include treatments you would like for cosmetic reasons, such as teeth whitening or a smile makeover. Services not covered by the NHS are available through private dentistry, where you will have to pay out-of-pocket, or through private insurance.

Cost for NHS Dental Treatments

NHS dentistry is structured into three Bands, which outlines the amount you pay out-of-pocket for any clinically-necessary care.

Band 1 or Emergency Dental Treatment

Patients pay £25.80. This covers an examination, diagnosis, X-rays, a scale and polish (if clinically required) and preventative care. For dental emergencies, this covers emergency care, including pain relief.

Band 2

Patients pay £70.70. This covers everything in Band 1 and additional treatments, such as fillings, root canals, tooth removal and other services that are not as complex as the treatments listed in Band 3.

Band 3

Patients pay £306.80. This covers everything in Bands 1 and 2 and more involved dental work such as crowns, bridges, dentures and other laboratory work.
Learn more about each band on the NHS website.

A Clear Treatment Plan

At South Cliff Dental Group, we believe good communication creates better relationships between our dentists and their patients.

Our dentists will always be very clear about which treatments are covered on the NHS, which services are only available privately, and the associated costs for each. We are happy to discuss all of your options with you — including the risks and benefits — so you can make an informed choice about your dental care. Please let us know if you have any questions about our recommendations, so we can outline our reasons and explain the benefits of each proposed treatment.

If you decide that you would like to proceed with a private dental treatment instead of treatment covered by the NHS, this will be outlined in your treatment plan. After explaining the treatment plan and the cost for private treatment, you will be asked to sign the plan and given a copy for your records.
